Suspect Shot With Own Gun in Queens Home Invasion

Police say the suspect and the homeowner did not know each other

Police say a home invasion suspect is recovering from a leg wound after his gun went off while trying to rob a homeowner in Queens early Tuesday.

Police say the suspect tried to enter a home in South Richmond Hill at about 3 a.m. The homeowner confronted him and there was a scuffle. The suspect's gun fired during the exchange, hitting him in the leg.

The suspect, identified only as a man in his 20s, is under arrest and recovering at a local hospital, authorities said.

Police say the suspect and the homeowner did not know each other.

The gun believed to have belonged to the suspect was recovered inside the house.

No other injuries were reported.

Investigators tell NBC 4 New York they will be reviewing footage from surveillance cameras the homeowner had installed outside his home.
