Handicapped Kids Get a Special Visit from Santa

About 4,500 mentally and physically handicapped children have the chance to meet Santa

Here comes Santa Claus, here comes Santa Claus -- arriving in New York City by plane to visit handicapped children.

He's visiting from the North Pole and will be part of the Operation Santa Claus charity event held by a group called the Community Mayors. The volunteer group provides recreational therapy for children with special needs in the New York metro area.

About 4,500 mentally and physically handicapped children have the chance to greet Santa when he arrives at John F. Kennedy International Airport on Wednesday morning.

City Councilman Tony Avella is accompanying Santa on his Delta Air Lines flight.

The Community Mayors treat 50,000 children a year to special events including outings to the Bronx Zoo, the New York Aquarium and the circus.
