Boat Hits Jetty in Great South Bay, Boaters Flee: Police

The boaters climbed the jetty in Blue Point to get onshore and were found on a private dock

A boat struck a jetty in the Great South Bay early Monday, then the boaters fled their vessel, police say. 

The boaters climbed the jetty in Blue Point to get onshore and were found on a private dock, Suffolk County police said. Both were injured: one had a lacerations on his head and the other suffered a broken foot. They were taken to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital. 

Officers are investigating which of the men was operating the boat, a 21-foot Maverick that was severely damaged in the crash and impounded.
