Two Con Edison workers and a contractor were injured in the Bronx Tuesday afternoon when a fire was sparked by underground gas equipment, authorities said.
The workers and contractor were called to the location near East 188th Street and Park Avenue in Belmont after a gas leak was reported, authorities said. As they were working, they hit the underground equipment and it caught fire.
The flames were put out with a fire extinguisher, authorities said.
All three of the victims suffered facial burns and were transported to an area hospital. None of the injuries were considered life-threatening, authorities said.
Con Edison said the gas line has been capped.
