Elderly Woman Punched in Face, Robbed While Walking With Groceries

A 73-year-old woman pushing a cart of groceries down a Queens sidewalk was punched in the face and robbed by two teens in an attack caught on video, police said.

The woman was walking home from the grocery store near 153rd Avenue and 88th Street just before 3:30 p.m. when a young woman came up from behind and took her purse from the grocery cart, according to the NYPD.

The young male suspect then punched her in the face. She fell to the ground and was later treated for cuts on her head and arm.

"Before I knew it, they were behind me, she's grabbing my bag, I try to retrieve it," the woman told NBC 4 New York Thursday. "Then he was in back of me and punched me."

The suspects made off with $100, a cell phone and her rosary.

The woman said she will continue to walk to the grocery store despite the attack.

"I lived through 9/11, bombings and everything, nobody's going to stop me," she said. "I just hope they get the individuals."

Police are asking anyone with information about the suspects to call Crime Stoppers at 800-577-TIPS.
