Elderly Woman Followed to Front Door by Man, Robbed in Her Own Chelsea Home: NYPD

An elderly woman was robbed and injured by a man who followed her to her Manhattan front door and pushed his way inside, police say.

The woman was robbed in her home at West 28th Street and Eighth Avenue in Chelsea about 4 p.m. after the man somehow got into the complex, according to authorities.

The suspect is believed to have gotten away with $170. Video from the scene shows detectives dusting for fingerprints.

Meanwhile, neighbors are on edge after the terrifying robbery.

“It's frightening. I mean no matter what age you are, whether you’re 20, 30, 50 or 70 or 90 ... we do have security around here, but I guess maybe it’s not enough,” said Ivy Eig, a resident in the apartment complex.

Police are not sure how the robber got inside, but the building doesn't have a doorman because it was something the complex had voted against.

"It's quite frightening," said neighbor Wendell Love. "I think that we need a little bit more security."

The woman was not seriously injured.

Anyone with information about the attacker should call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
