State records show Gov.-elect Andrew Cuomo outspent millionaire Republican Carl Paladino by nearly 3-to-1 in the race for governor in New York.
Cuomo spent more than $8 million in the last two weeks of the campaign alone. That's twice as much as the millionaire Buffalo developer.
Cuomo still has nearly $5 million in his campaign account. That's a big start for a 2014 re-election campaign or efforts to try to counter a possible advertising blitz by public employee unions if he goes ahead with scheduled layoffs.
The New York Public Interest Research Group's analysis shows Cuomo spent just more than $28 million during the campaign. Paladino spent $9.6 million.
Paladino had promised to spend $10 million of his own money.
Cuomo won the Nov. 2 election with about 62 percent of the vote.
