CT Man With Dementia Involved in Wrong-Way Crash on Long Island

New York State Police say an 82-year-old Connecticut man with dementia caused a three-vehicle crash by driving the wrong way on a Long Island parkway.

Troopers say Burgess Moore, of New Britain, was traveling north in the southbound lanes of the Wantagh State Parkway around 10:20 p.m. Tuesday when he collided with a southbound vehicle. A third vehicle then slammed into the second vehicle.

Police say Moore had been reported missing to the New Britain Police Department. He's listed in critical condition at Nassau University Medical Center.

Troopers say a 48-year-old Long Beach man driving the vehicle struck by Moore is being treated for neck and back pain. A man and woman from Levittown who were in the third vehicle suffered minor injuries.

The southbound lanes were shut down until 2:30 a.m. Wednesday.
