NJ Hospital Loses Water Pressure After Pipe Breaks: Officials

A water main break left a hospital in New Jersey with low water pressure for several hours early Wednesday, officials say.

The break was reported at about 12:30 a.m. at Cuozzo Street and Newark Avenue in Belleville, according to the New Jersey Department of Public Works.

The break caused Clara Maass Medical Center to lose water pressure, but firefighters pumped in emergency water supplies to the hospital while crews repaired the pipe.

The break was closed at about 6 a.m., officials say, and full water service to the hospital was restored.

A hospital spokeswoman told NBC 4 New York that the hospital never completely lost water service because the fire department quickly responded to the scene. She said patients were given bottled water while crews worked as a precaution.

Other customers in the area were also affected, but it is unclear how many.
