Authorities say a child struck by a van in a hit-and-run accident has died of his injuries.

The Union County prosecutor's office says the case is now being investigated as a vehicular homicide.

Prosecutors say 12-year-old Jeremy Maraj was struck at about 8 p.m. Wednesday in Union Township.

He was rushed to University Hospital in Newark, where prosecutors said he was pronounced dead late Friday morning.

Prosecutors say the vehicle involved has been described as a white commercial van.

They are asking anyone with information to contact local police or county task force investigators.
