Bronx Man, 20, Convicted in Stray Bullet Death of 92-Year-Old Woman

A Bronx man who fired a bullet that burst through a window and killed a 92-year-old woman in her living room has been convicted of manslaughter.

Jamal Blair will be sentenced to up to 15 years in prison for the manslaughter charge in the death of Sadie Mitchell on Oct. 20, 2009.

The 20-year-old will also serve a concurrent 14 years in prison for one count of criminal possession of a weapon.

He pleaded guilty to both charges.

The Bronx district attorney announced Blair's conviction Tuesday.

Blair was an 18-year-old teenager when authorities say he confessed to firing a 9mm handgun during a street fight. The bullet went through Mitchell's window down the street and struck her. The churchgoing neighborhood matriarch died at the hospital later that day.
