Suspect Charged in Deadly Beating of Tourist at Bronx Bodega: Police

A 19-year-old man has been charged in the beating death of a 37-year-old tourist outside a Bronx bodega early Friday, police say.

The suspect, identified as Brownie Lopez of the Bronx, turned himself in at the 48th precinct station Sunday afternoon, according to police.

He was charged with misdemeanor assault. Attorney information wasn't immediately available.

Surveillance cameras captured the suspect and the victim, a visitor from Switzerland, arguing outside the Guerrero Bodega on Washington Avenue in the Belmont area just after midnight Friday.

The suspect then punched the victim, identified as 37-year-old Oliver D'Orio, in the face, and the victim fell to the ground and hit his head, police said.

D'Orio went into cardiac arrest and was pronounced dead at St. Barnabas Hospital.
