Brandon Marshall: Race Played a Role in Reversal of Tom Brady's Suspension

Jets star wide receiver Brandon Marshall says some football players think race played a factor in the reversal of Patriots’ quarterback Tom Brady’s four-game suspension last week.

ESPN reports that Marshall, speaking on Showtime’s “Inside the NFL”, said many players believe “the race card” contributed to a federal judge’s decision to overturn a four-game suspension by the NFL for his role in the deflation of footballs during New England’s AFC Championship game against the Indianapolis Colts.

"There are a lot of players out there that believe that white players -- specifically, at the quarterback position -- are treated differently,” Marshall said.

Marshall, a regular panelist on the weekly sports issue show who is in his first year with Gang Green, said that NFL players are divided into three camps around the deflated ball scandal.

One group, he said, wants to see players’ rights upheld, while a second is afraid to say anything even though they think Brady should be suspended.

The third group, he says, believe that race played a big factor in his punishment.

"This is how guys are feeling; this is not just my opinion," he said. "These are conversations I'm having with guys."

Marshall did say that he thinks that black players are held to a different standard than others.
