Video Shows Melee Near Barclays Center; 1 Teen Stabbed

Community activists are calling for action after videos were posted online of a teen being stabbed near one of Brooklyn’s most recognizable landmarks amid an after-school brawl.

The videos show dozens of teens crowded around on the sidewalk outside Atlantic Terminal Mall, across the street from Barclays Center near Flatbush Avenue, when a fight breaks out. Several teens can be seen pummeling a boy as others stand around. Another video shows people running and screaming during the fight and as officers converge on the scene to make arrests.

One teen was taken to the hospital with a puncture wound to his left thigh made by a box cutter, police said. He was taken to a hospital in stable condition. Another victim got a cut on his lip after being punched in the face; he was expected to be OK.

An officer responding to the scene was also pepper-sprayed in the chaos.

Police Commissioner Bill Bratton says two people were arrested.

Bratton said authorities are monitoring social media and looking at other ways to police after-school brawls.

Activist Tony Herbert shared one of the videos to his Facebook page early Tuesday and said that he plans to meet with police to talk about the violence.

"This assault was horrendous and we as a society can not allow for these kids to think that this is OK and that they can get away with it," he said.
