Baby Girl Killed in Westchester Highway Crash

A baby girl was killed in a fiery crash on a Westchester highway Tuesday morning when the vehicle she was in, driven by her father, slammed into a tree, police say.

The 24-year-old father appeared to be speeding alongside another car on the Sprain Brook Parkway in Yonkers when he veered from the right lane across two lanes of traffic, went up an embankment and struck the tree shortly before 11:30 a.m., just south of the Jackson Avenue exit, Yonkers and state police said.

The car burst into flames, and a good Samaritan pulled the infant from the burning car, according to police. The 1-year-old baby, her father and another man in the car were taken to Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla, where the baby was pronounced dead.

The adults were being treated for non-life threatening injuries.

The baby was in a child safety seat, but it wasn't clear if she was secured in the seat. Police said they were interviewing witnesses.
