4-Month-Old Boy With Bruises Dies at Hospital

Police are investigating after a 4-month-old Manhattan boy with bruises on his body died at a hospital after his parents brought him there.

Authorities say the parents brought the infant to NYU Hospital around 9 p.m. Tuesday. He was pronounced dead a short time later.

A police source tells NBC 4 New York that the baby had bruises on his hands, feet, back and groin area. The source says police have been called to the 32nd Street home two other times, once in September and once in October, for verbal altercations between the husband and wife.

The superintendent of the building told NBC 4 New York that in one case where police were at the home, the wife told officers her husband had shaken her, bruised her arm and did not give her the baby when she asked for him.

The father is a low-level employee at the Mexican consulate, police said.

The superintendent said the couple moved to New York City from Mexico less than a year ago.

The medical examiner said late Wednesday afternoon that the autopsy was inconclusive and that further study was needed to determine a cause of death.
