Amtrak Worker Hit by LIRR Train

He was hit on an eastbound LIRR track near the East River tunnel in Queens

An Amtrak worker suffered serious injuries when he was hit by a Long Island Rail Road train.

Officials say the accident happened at about 3:45 a.m. Friday.

The worker's name was not released. He was hit on an eastbound LIRR track near the East River tunnel in Queens. The train had been coming from Penn Station.

It was not immediately known why the worker was on the track. The Daily News says he suffered serious, but not life-threatening injuries.

The MTA said Amtrak has been doing work inside the East River tunnel for several weeks.

No passengers on the train were injured. They were transferred to another train. Several LIRR lines were affected by morning rush-hour delays because of the accident.
