New York City Nailed by Hail

Hail rained down upon some parts of New York City and Long Island during a fierce quick-moving lightening storm that also caused street flooding in parts of Brooklyn.

The National Weather Service says penny-sized hail fell in Brooklyn Heights around 8:40 p.m. on Monday. Larger, quarter-sized hail was reported on Long Island, in Long Beach.

The storm also brought lots of lightening and heavy rain. The weather service says 1.13 inches of rain fell on Central Park.

Street flooding was reported in some parts of Brooklyn, specially in Park Slope where water ran into some basements. Most of the storm had moved out of the area by midnight. Light rain continued into the morning Tuesday, with clearing expected by the afternoon.
