98-Year-Old Man Killed by Drunken Driver

Joseph Capatosto would have celebrated his 100th birthday in a few years if not for the alleged drunken driver who plowed into his car.

Patricia Capatosto, Joseph's daughter, was driving her elderly father home to Queens when Juan Collantes' 1999 Chrysler 300 collided with her 2007 Toyota Matrix. The accident happened at about 11:20 p.m. Friday in Brentwood. Collantes had been driving on the wrong side of the road; Joseph was in the back seat, police said.

The elderly Capatosto was taken to Southside Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His 62-year-old daughter was also taken to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries. Cops said it appears all people involved were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.

Collantes, 24, of Deer Park, was arrested for driving while intoxicated. He will be arraigned today at First District Court in Central Islip.

The investigation is ongoing.
