87-Year-Old Bronx Woman Bludgeoned to Death: Police

Police apprehended a 48-year-old Bronx man who had barricaded himself in a house where officers later found the body of his bludgeoned grandmother, authorities said Thursday.

Three other members of the man's family were taken to Jacobi Medical Center with injuries that appear to have been inflicted by the man, police said.

The man, whose name wasn't released, was "acting erratic" outside his grandmother's home on Hollywood Avenue when police responded to a 911 call about an emotionally disturbed person there.

When officers approached the man, he ran into the house and barricaded himself in a bedroom, police say. Officers managed to apprehend the man without injuring him and took him to Jacobi Medical Center for evaluation and treatment.

During a search of the house, police found the body of 87-year-old Alice Durso, authorities said.
