Mom, Young Daughters Critically Hurt After Being Hit by Car on Christmas Eve: Police

A mother and her two young daughters were critically injured when they were struck by a car on Long Island on Christmas Eve.

Police said a 42-year-old mother and her two daughters, ages 11 and 4, were crossing Newbridge/Old Country roads in Hicksville shortly before 10 p.m. when they were struck by a 2003 Honda Accord.

Police say the 39-year-old driver of the car was traveling south on the road at the time. The driver stayed at the scene, and authorities say no criminality is suspected.

Police said the victims suffered multiple internal injuries. They say they were taken to a local hospital, where the mother and 4-year-old were listed in critical condition and the 11-year-old was in critical but stable condition.

The vehicle was being tested for possible equipment failure.
