An explosion of violence rocks Newark, leaving two people dead and several others wounded.
The Star-Ledger of Newark is reporting that one girl was fatally shot Friday afternoon near the 18th Avenue School, which has been locked down. The newspaper reported that police said another victim was shot and killed at Ridgewood and Avon streets.
The newspaper reported one of the injured was a 9th grader who was walking home from school.
Another unidentified person was shot outside the Queen of Angels School on Irvine Turner Boulevard, and a fourth person was reportedly shot in the arm near Chadwick and Clinton avenues.
Police were pursuing a car in connection with the shootings, but it wasn't known whether the occupants were involved in the separate incidents.
