Two men have been charged with murder in the slaying of a father of three as he was taking his children to day care, officials say.
Zahir Stevenson, of Newark, and Lance Herbert, of Jersey City, have been charged with felony murder, murder and weapons charges in the death of Hassan Scott, the Essex County prosecutor's office said Friday.
Scott was fatally shot outside his Newark home on July 22 as he was transporting his three children to day care. The children, ages 2, 4 and 9, were not physically hurt.
Herbert is being held at Essex County Correctional Facility in Newark on $1 million cash-only bail, officials said. Stevenson has not yet been arrested.
Authorities say the investigation is continuing.
It is unclear whether the defendants have an attorney.
