A man was killed during a robbery on Saturday and two people were injured in a shooting near Rutgers University, authorities said.
Enrique Perez Galindo, 29, was approached by robbers outside of the apartment complex where he lived on Hamilton Street, which is less than a mile from Rutgers, Middlesex County prosecutors said.
He was stabbed with a sharp object in a driveway leading to the complex. He was able to return to his apartment but was pronounced dead there a short time later.
About an hour earlier, two people were shot near Church and Spring streets, police said. They were brought to a hospital, but were expected to survive their injuries, police said.
None of the victims were students.
Rutgers University police asked students to take precautions, such as staying alert and aware of their surroundings, avoiding isolated areas and walking in groups.
The New Brunswick Police Department asks anyone with information regarding the crimes to call the department's Detective Bureau at 732-745-5217.
