Retail Real Estate: Atlantic Ave, Extra Place and Midtown

In the ever-changing world of New York retail real estate, the city sees the closure of Brooklyn Artez'n, persistent vacancies on Extra Place behind Bowery, and new owners for the Hammacher Schlemmer store.

Local gift shop nook Artez'n will shutter after six years selling quirky merch on Atlantic Avenue in Boerum Hill.  The neighborhood's one-stop for all things offbeat, from sassy tees emblazoned with bikes and Buddhas to Brooklyn-themed shower curtains, coasters, baby clothes. and artwork, Artez'n will close its doors for good June 6.

Hammacher Schlemmer has been hinting at an impending relocation for some time. Brazilian company Malzoni Group has just purchased the building on E. 57th, so we're guessing the brand will move from its 80-year home come September, when its lease ends.  Apparently, repos from the company told the Post of plans to renovate the space, so stay tuned for more updates.

Meanwhile, the scrubbed-clean enclave that used to be the alley behind CBGB has managed to occupy three of its five retail outlets planned for the Avalon Chrystie luxury development.  The newest venue, which opens tonight, is a furniture gallery called The Proposition. It joins Bespoke Chocolates and Montana Knox on the block.  Three down, two to go.
