Recession Special: Cheap Living Courtsey of NY Mag

New York Magazine addresses the shaky economy this week with a feature package on living cheap. Their tips include inexpensive haircuts (who knew?), DIY manicures, taking the subway instead of a cab, drinking at dive bars, repairing things instead of purchasing new ones, having sex with your ex (somehow justifiable to save money), buying generics and haggling.

You have to love the caveat included in the intro: "This is a micro- , not a macroeconomic exercise. If everyone quit shopping, or eating out, or buying books, the city’s economy would stop dead in its tracks, so don’t take all of our advice all at once." Oh, and they call the age we're living in the "New Austerity." Fun!
