Essex Street Market Expands Schedule, MoMA Celebrates Kitchens

Food news while you caffeinate. Plus, what's on the menu for later.

Good morning. Starting on November 9, the Essex Street Market will open Sundays from 10 A.M. to 6 P.M. so you'll soon have an extra day to shop and eat baklava at the Lower East Side institution. Mayor Fiorello H. LaGuardia opened the market in 1940, but kitchen tools have been evolving much longer. If you're interested in such history, the Museum of Modern Art traces cooking culture all the way back to 1900 in its new exhibit “Counter Space: Design and the Modern Kitchen.” Just think, someday your cabinets' contents will be relics too.

Stay tuned: Later today, Joseph Leonard is our latest class photo, and Torrisi sets up its new bar.
