CHUPI IN CRISIS: Palazzo Duplex Joins the Chopping Block

In the nine months that it's been on the "official" market, the eighth- and ninth-floor duplex at upstart developer Julian Schnabel's Palazzo Chupi has seen its asking prices rise and fall from $27M to $32M to $29.5. Then it went away for a few months during the recent broker switch. But ever since the Palazzo's triplex penthouse resurfaced at a reduced price, we knew its downstairs neighbor—our favorite of the five Schnablets, btw—wouldn't be too far behind. Buckle in, friends, because that time is now. The 3,963-square-foot 3BR condo is now asking $23 million, just $1M less than the new price tag on the penthouse. Why is the duplex our favorite? There are many reasons, but here's one: the master bathroom has a wall of windows because Julian Schnabel thought it would be cool if you could watch the snow fall on the West Village while enjoying a toasty soak in the tub. Those searching for the real meaning of Chupiriffic should re-read the prior sentence.
