Last year Superfly, the promotions company that runs the Bonnaroo music festival, launched the Great GoogaMooga, a weekend event that attempted to combine music and food, two things which Brooklyn has shown an aptitude for. Despite sets from The Roots and Hall & Oates and food from some of the city's finest eateries, the event was not warmly received, with complaints of long lines, no cell phone service and general overcrowding.
But Superfly acknowledged its mistakes and refunded money to people who paid for VIP bonuses that didn't come through, and are vowing that this year will improve on last year's event with better cell phone reception, more vendors and better crowd control.
While that remains to be seen, we can report that they've got a great line-up for the 2013 edition, which will again take place as Prospect Park, this time on the weekend of Friday, May 17 through Sunday, May 19. The Friday kick off costs $50, and will feature The Yeah Yeah Yeahs, The Flaming Lips and The Darkness. Saturday and Sunday are free through www.googamooga.com, and will feature sets from De La Soul, Matt & Kim, Father John Misty, Sharon Van Etten and more.
On the food side of things, The Meat Hook, Seersucker, Hill County Barbecue Market, DuMont Burgers & Shakes, Fatty Cue and Big Gay Ice Creams, among others will providing eats. The massive list of food and drinks vendors, as well as the day by day line up, is below. There is also something called Cafe' GoogaMooga, sponsored by WORD and Housing Works Bookstore, which will spotlights authors, and The VIP Cocktail Experience, which features fancy seating and fancier mixed drinks.
