Long Island hip hop legends De La Soul are giving away their entire music catalog for free on their website for 25 hours to mark the 25th anniversary of their debut album, “3 Feet High and Rising.”

In an interview with Rolling Stone, De La Soul member Posdnuos explained the move.

“It’s about allowing our fans who have been looking and trying to get a hold of our music to have access to it,” he said. “It’s been too long where our fans haven’t had access to everything. This is our way of showing them how much we love them.”

De La Soul’s music is available in the Library of Congress, but has long since been barred from iTunes due to the group’s frequent use of samples. The catalog download is a way to bridge the gap and allow fans to easily reach their content.

The trio also revealed that the free release is just the beginning of a string of musical ventures; they are planning on posting new songs their website, releasing a new EP, as well as working on an unreleased beat from legendary producer, J Dilla, who passed away in 2006.

The free catalog download is available from 11 a.m. on Feb. 14 through noon on Feb. 15.
