Runway shows during the various fashion weeks throughout the year have gone from insider-only affairs to broadcast across city billboards and over the internet. Now, Ermenegildo Zegna is planning to take it to the next level, tapping director James Lima to create the first-ever 3-D fashion show tomorrow, WWD reports.
Lima, who served as a visual consultant on the most epic of all 3-D cinematic ventures, Avatar, will blend "live performance with a cinematic experience" on the runway, wherein backstage footage of models will be projected in 3-D (on a 360-degree background) as they walk the runway at the same time.
