Anthony Vaccarello Wins Andam Fashion Prize

The coveted Andam Fashion Prize has been awarded to Anthony Vaccarello, WWD reports.

At a banquet in Paris last night, the Belgian-Italian designer and Fendi alum was presented with a 200,000-euro (about $287,800) endowment to hold a runway show during Paris fashion week this October. Vaccarello beat runner-up Yiqing Yin and finalists Adam Kimmel, Commuun, Jeremy Laing and Palmer//Harding. Second-place Yin will get 60,000 euros (about $86,300) to host a show at Paris couture week next July.

The prestigious annual prize is presided over by an elite panel of corporate and editorial fashion industry professionals including Christian Dior deputy managing director Delphine Arnault, Swarovski creative director Nadja Swarovski and Pierre Bergé; as well as French Vogue editor Emmanuelle Alt, Opening Ceremony co-owner Humberto Leon, and The Daily Telegraph fashion director Hilary Alexander. Previous winners include Giles Deacon, Gareth Pugh, Jeremy Scott, Jerome Dreyfuss and Viktor + Rolf.

Having come up from Brussels' La Cambre and Fendi as one of Karl Lagerfeld's personal picks before starting his namesake label in 2008, Vaccarello isn't exactly a come-from-nowhere star. With this latest distinction, it's likely his star can only rise.
