Alice Ritter Fall 2011: '70s, Corduroy and Culottes

Alice Ritter often finds herself inspired by movies from her native France, and this season she told us it was the soft-core film, Emmanuelle, that sent her sketching. One might expect an erotic movie to translate into leather, lace, and bondage-style dresses, but Emmanuelle, originally made in the ‘70s, has a softly lit, loosely styled look – no patent pleather here.

Rather, Ritter created a collection of jersey wrap blouses, full-cut corduroy skirts, and cocoon-like cardigans that prompted one model to exclaim to another, as she dressed, “This is so us!”

The models did look incredibly comfortable, as they twirled for the cameras and lounged in tall wicker chairs, inspired by the movie’s poster. Colors like camel, plum, pumpkin, and cream, played across a variety of wallpaper-ish prints, embroidered hems, and contrast piped plackets. A poppy red set of high-waisted culottes paired with a matching round-necked blouse punched up the whole palette. Aside from that, it appears that in Alice Ritter’s eyes, Fall 2011 will be very easy-going.
