Gabourey Sidibe Turns Slacker for Showtime's "The Big C"

Gabourey Sidibe is moving worlds away from the streets of Harlem for her next project, playing a smart-aleck student in the suburbs of Connecticut.

After her phenomenal Oscar run, the "Precious" star will appear in the Showtime dark comedy "The Big C." Sidibe, who guest starred in the pilot episode, just signed on as a recurring guest star in the half-hour series. Executive Producer Laura Linney stars as the teacher -- a repressed suburban mother who reclaims her life after a terminal cancer diagnosis.

Sidibe will play a student described by a Showtime rep as "a slacker-smart-aleck." And clearly she will not be lugging around her two children from the last job.

"This is very different from Precious," says the rep.

We're bracing for the first "whatever." But any project featuring 2009's bright light is going to be worth watching.
