If you want to eat a bagel, why not go to Ess-a-Bagel? In Yiddish and in German, that's exactly what Ess-a-Bagel means, but owners Gene and Florence Wilpon don't speak either language. They just think the name is catchy, and they hope you'll come in to, well, eat a bagel. What's also catchy are the bagels, of course, which are hand-rolled on the premises. But Ess-a-Bagel boasts a hearty menu that also includes salads and knishes, plenty of sides and an assortment of meats. Head downtown or Midtown for your next treat from Ess-a, which has been serving New York bagel lovers for more than 30 years.
