The owner of nine Papa John's pizza franchises in the Bronx has been sentenced to 60 days in jail after being convicted of illegally taking wages from his employees.
Attorney General Eric Schneiderman says Abdul Jamil Khokhar will also have to pay $280,000 in penalties and $230,000 in restitution to workers.
Khokhar had pleaded guilty to the charges in July. Attempts to reach him on Monday were unsuccessful.
Officials say Khokhar and BMY Foods Inc. failed to pay overtime and created fake employee names to conceal the practice on the company's timekeeping system. Authorities say the company also filed fake tax returns to hide its actions.
Investigators say that some 300 current and former employees were affected by the wage theft.
