NJ City Named No. 3 Worst Place to Live: Report

One of New Jersey's biggest cities is one of the worst places to live in America, according to a 24/7 Wall St ranking.

The website ranked Paterson, New Jersey, as the third-worst place to live in America behind only Miami and Detroit.

The report cited Paterson's poverty rate, almost twice the national average, and stagnant economy, for the ranking, which was calculated in a review of crime data, employment growth, access to restaurants and housing affordability among the 550 U.S. cities with populations greater than 65,000.

Other area cities -- including New York City and Newark -- were among the worst 50 places to live.

New York City came in at No. 44, and was docked for its high cost of living and income disparity between the city's poorest and richest citizens.

Newark (No. 43) also got low marks for its high cost of living. But the report also cited a median income $15,700 below the national median and high crime rates in giving the city its rating.

Other cities in the ranking included Buffalo (No. 14), Mount Vernon, New York (No. 17); and Camden, New Jersey (No. 25).
