NYPD Seeks Smash-And-Grab Thief on Staten Island

Police area asking for the public's help to identify a man wanted in connection with a series of smash-and-grab burglaries at a shopping plaza on Staten Island.

The suspect is seen in a surveillance video using a rock to break through the glass door of a Subway sandwich shop at about 4 a.m. Sunday at the Coral Lanes Shopping Center in the Bull's Head neighborhood.

The man takes $228 from the restaurant's cash register before tripping and tumbling as he flees through the shattered glass door.

The suspect is also wanted in connection with two other burglaries at the same shopping plaza. On Dec. 30, the suspect tossed a rock through the front window of the Red Ginger restaurant and made off with $250 from the cash register. On Dec. 5, he stole $196 from the Subway shop cash register.
