Man Shot After Entering Unmarked Police Car: NYPD

A man was critically wounded by officers Sunday after he climbed into an unmarked police car in Brooklyn and took a sergeant's gun, police said.

The 25-year-old man entered the backseat of the police car, which was stopped at a red light in East Flatbush shortly before 1 a.m., according to the NYPD.

The man struggled with a police sergeant sitting in the front passenger seat, and the sergeant's gun went off. The assailant then took the gun and ran from the car, according to police.

Nearby officers told the man to drop the gun; instead, he shot at police, the NYPD said.

The man was struck in the torso and leg and taken to a hospital, where he was listed in critical but stable condition, police said.
