Off-Duty NYPD Officer Dies in Brooklyn Motorcycle Crash: Police

A 35-year-old off-duty NYPD officer  died following a motorcycle crash Monday in Brooklyn, according to police.

Officers found the officer lying on the roadway unconscious and unresponsive after the crash around 7 p.m. on Rockaway Parkway between Avenue J and Flatlands Avenue in Canarsie. He was taken to Brookdale Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Police said he was riding a 2008 Ducati motorcycle southbound on Rockaway Parkway when a 2015 Kia Sorento driven in the northbound lanes by a 28-year-old woman made a U-turn across the double yellow lines.

The motorcycle struck the front passenger door of the Kia, causing the officer driving the motorcycle to fall off, according to police.

The woman driving the Kia was taken to Kings County Hospital with neck and back pain. The other passengers in her car, two 3-year-old boys, were not injured.

No arrests have been made and police have not yet identified those involved.
