Boyfriend Suspected in Hit and Run on Girlfriend

Police have identified the man accused of striking a 23-year-old woman with his SUV in Midtown Saturday.

Ricaury Pena, 28, has been charged with vehicular assault and DWI in the incident. Pena allegedly hit his girlfriend, then crashed the car five hours later, critically injuring himself, according to police.

The bizarre series of events began around 3 a.m., when witnesses heard the couple arguing on 46th Street between Fifth and Sixth avenues.

Police say Pena then struck the woman with his black Honda Pilot, and fled the scene. Authorities are not certain whether she threw herself in front of the car or he hit her deliberately.

About five hours later, Pena crashed near the George Washington Bridge and is now in critical condition at Harlem Hospital. She is also in critical condition, at Bellevue Hospital.

A woman who lives near the first crash scene said "there was definitely a lot of blood."

"It's just horrible," she added. "How can you leave a girl hurt like that on the street?"
