Gunfire Detector Leads Cops to Body on Long Island

A computerized gunfire detector alerted police on Long Island early Sunday to a location where officers found the body of a 44-year-old man.

Suffolk County police responded to a neighborhood in North Bay Shore just after midnight when the system indicated that several shots had been fired in that vicinity. When officers arrived they spotted the victim, who was later identified as Marcelo Argueta Chicas, a Bay Shore resident.

Argueta Chicas had been shot once and was pronounced dead at the scene.

No arrest has been made.
