Police are searching for a man they say assaulted a woman in an apparent bias attack in Greenwich Village early Monday.

The man approached the 33-year-old woman at about 4:40 a.m. inside the Waverly Diner on Sixth Avenue, according to police.

He made anti-gay statements and hit her in the face with a ketchup bottle, cutting her in the head.

The suspect is described as being about 6 feet 1 inch tall and 200 pounds. He was last seen wearing a dark-colored baseball cap, a gray baseball-style shirt with dark sleeves, blue jeans and dark-colored sneakers.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 800-577-TIPS.
