All Lanes Open on George Washington Bridge After Emergency Repairs

Traffic is flowing normally over the George Washington Bridge after a piece of pavement on the bridge's upper deck crumbled Monday, causing significant delays while crews scrambled to make repairs, Port Authority of New York and New Jersey officials said.

Two of the bridge's four upper level inbound lanes were closed, along with one lower level lane, after a 5-foot piece of roadway fell, exposing metal parts of the bridge during rush hour traffic.

Crews closed the lanes during rush hour to make emergency repairs, causing delays as long as 90 minutes.

All the bridge's lanes reopened at 5 a.m. Tuesday.
