Cop Arrested in Deadly Drunk Driving Accident

An NYPD patrol officer from the Bronx was charged Wednesday with killing a man while driving drunk, police said.

The officer, 25-year-old Luis Arnao, struck a pedestrian at 241 Street and White Plains Road in the Bronx at about 3:50 a.m., authorities said. Arnao was not on duty at the time.

Arnao stayed on the scene as emergency responders arrived. The victim, 22-year-old Tyre Chisholm, was taken first to Montefiore Hospital, then to Jacobi Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, said police.

Arnao, who joined the force in July 2010, was later found to be intoxicated.

He was charged with vehicular manslaughter, criminally negligent homicide and operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated.

Arnao is suspended with pay from the department, NYPD said.
