Central Park Vandals Toss Bench Into Water, Cause Damage at Strawberry Fields: Police

Police say several structures in Central Park were damaged by vandals over the weekend.

A gazebo at Wagner Cove on the south end of the park lake was pushed off its foundation at some poimt between 7:20 p.m. Saturday and 8:15 a.m. Sunday, police said. A handrail at the Bow Bridge boating landing was broken and a bench was thrown in the water nearby.

Police say the vandals also threw a rock through the window of a kiosk near West 72nd Street.

Among other damage, irrigation hoses were torn up at Strawberry Fields.

Trash cans were toppled near Central Park West and 69th Street.

The New York Times says
the agency that manages the park, the Central Park Conservancy, declined to comment.

There have been no arrests.
