Abandoned Cat Showing Signs of Frostbite Was Shot With BB Gun: Group

An abandoned male cat named Blizzard is recovering at an animal sanctuary after veterinarians say he was left outside an apartment complex in frigid weather after having been shot with a BB gun, and X-rays showed the pellets still lodged near the bones they broke.

Two other cats were found along with Blizzard on Valentine's Day outside the complex in Vails Gate in Orange County. All three were emaciated and experiencing early signs of frostbite, but Pets Alive, the group treating Blizzard, says he was the only one that appeared to have been shot with BBs.

X-Rays showed Blizzard had a partially healed broken leg and a broken sternum; the BBs were wedged near the breaks in his bones. Further tests showed Blizzard also had bladder and kidney infections.

He was sent to a veterinary clinic for a week to undergo treatment and his since returned to Pets Alive, where he will continue to receive antibiotics and extra feedings, the group said.

Staff member Danielle Eisenberg said she looks forward to the day Blizzard can be adopted into a loving home.

"I am so glad that he is getting better and back in our care so he can get the love and attention he so much deserves," Eisenberg said.
