A  taxi driver lost control of his cab on the Upper West Side today and crashed into the side of a building near a subway station entrance.

Three people were injured, the FDNY said.  The driver of the cab, a passenger, and a female pedestrian were all taken to local hospitals for treatment.

The cause of the crash was not immediately known but the scene sparked panic around the highly-trafficked west side subway portal.  Police officials said the cab was crossing lanes when it jumped the divider.

Images from the scene show force behind the cab as it struck a fence and the structure.  The front of the car shattered on impact.

One witness said "the cab was speeding.  The driver was totally out of control."
