The 42-year-old man sought in connection with the execution-style shootings of a couple in a Bronx motel parking lot over the weekend killed himself in Florida as a task force moved in to arrest him, a Miami law enforcement source familiar with the investigation tells NBC 4 New York.

The source said Joseph Kernizan killed himself in Miami as police tried to get into his building and arrest him for allegedly killing 50-year-old Wayne Hamilton and a 38-year-old Tracy Bennett outside the Holiday Motel in Eastchester early Saturday.

Both victims had multiple gunshot wounds, authorities said.

According to police sources, Bennett and Kernizan had a child together and Bennett had an order of protection against him out of Nassau County.

Kernizan had several previous arrests, including at least once for violating the order of protection, sources said.
