One of the biggest pop star's of the moment is also a major traffic driver for the glitterati's social media tool of choice.

Mop-topped Canadian singer Justin Bieber currently accounts for three percent of the traffic on Twitter, reports the New York Daily News.

Dustin Curtis, an designer who verified the traffic numbers with a Twitter employee, said that "racks of servers" are dedicated to the "Baby" signer, who has over 5 million followers on the site. The numbers were later confirmed by tech blog Gizmodo.

In a follow up tweet, Curtis also noted that "most of the popular users on Twitter have dedicated servers for their accounts," which might mean that stars like Ashton Kutcher and Kim Kardashinan, both of whom have over four million followers each, have their own servers at Twitter HQ as well.

Bieber uses the social media site to communicate with his five million followers in a number of ways. While laid up with a cold last month, the singer tweeted his health status out to his breathless fans. Earlier this summer he staged a counterattack against an overzealous fan who left him a series of unwanted voicemails. Bieber posted his nemesis' phone number to his account and his followers quickly bombarded the Michigan teenager, rendering his phone unusable.

But while Bieber-related news and gossip drive a lot of people to the site, his is not the most followed person on Twitter. That honor belongs to the Fame Monster, Lady Gaga, who currently has over six million little monsters following her every move.
